Diyarbakir Governorship Implements 5-Day Protest Ban
The Diyarbakir Governorship has announced a ban on protests and gatherings within the city limits for a period of 5 days. The decision comes in response to concerns regarding potential illegal activities and disruptions to public order and safety.
According to a statement released by the Governorship, an evaluation was made regarding a planned rally at the İstasyon Meydanı in the Yenişehir district on Sunday, October 13th, between the hours of 13:00 and 18:00. The assessment highlighted the possibility of widespread illegal actions by groups associated with the terrorist organization PKK/KCK, under the pretext of ‘9 October’, which could undermine national unity and incite provocative acts targeting the fundamental principles of the Republic and the integrity of the state.
The statement emphasized the need to maintain public peace, eliminate the stated threats and risks, and ensure the safety of the citizens. In accordance with the provisions of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911 and the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442, the Governorship has deemed it necessary to implement certain measures within the administrative boundaries of Diyarbakir.
Prohibition of Various Activities
The ban extends to a wide range of activities that may be carried out in public spaces, including gatherings, marches, press statements, hunger strikes, sit-ins, rallies, setting up stands, erecting tents, distributing leaflets/brochures, displaying posters/banners, and similar actions. Additionally, the entry, exit, and transit of individuals and vehicles suspected of participating in these activities from other provinces or using Diyarbakir as a transit point to reach other regions have been restricted.
The restrictions apply from 00:01 on 9th October until 23:59 on 13th October, covering a total of 5 days. This includes the entry and exit of individuals and vehicles from external districts who are believed to be joining the prohibited activities, as well as those entering the city center from the surrounding areas with the intention of participating in the banned events.
Ensuring Public Safety and Preventing Disruptions
The decision to impose a ban on demonstrations and gatherings aims to safeguard public order and prevent any disturbances that could arise from activities organized by groups affiliated with terrorist organizations. By restricting the movement of individuals and vehicles suspected of engaging in unlawful actions, the Governorship seeks to maintain peace and security within the region.
The measures taken by the authorities are intended to proactively address potential threats to national unity and social harmony, as well as to protect the integrity of the state and the well-being of its citizens. By enforcing the ban on protests and related activities, the Governorship aims to mitigate the risks associated with illegal demonstrations and ensure the safety of the public.
In conclusion, the 5-day protest ban imposed by the Diyarbakir Governorship reflects a proactive approach to maintaining public order and security in the face of potential threats posed by illegal activities. By restricting the movement of individuals and vehicles suspected of participating in prohibited demonstrations, the authorities aim to prevent disruptions to public peace and protect the well-being of the citizens.
