Ice Skating Women’s National Team Performs Show on Çıldır Lake
The picturesque Çıldır Lake, nestled within the borders of Kars and Ardahan provinces, continues to host a variety of activities during the winter months. One such event, titled “Dancing on Ice at Çıldır Lake,” kicked off at the Kütük Ev area in the Arpaçay district with a stunning performance by the Caucasus Folk Dance team. The iconic event featured races of horse-drawn sleighs and exhilarating horse races.
In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8th, the Synchronized Ice Skating Women’s National Team graced the 123 square kilometer frozen expanse of Çıldır Lake with a mesmerizing show. Spectators were treated to group and individual performances by the national team athletes, captivating audiences with their skills and grace.
Local Community Engagement
Arpaçay District Governor Muhammed Burak Akköz shared with an AA reporter that the event garnered significant interest from the local community. He remarked, “The day after International Women’s Day, under this beautiful weather, we are proud to host this event for our fellow citizens in Çıldır Lake in collaboration with the Turkish Ice Skating Federation. The Turkish Ice Skating Federation’s national athletes put on a fantastic show, and we are very grateful for their contributions to promoting Çıldır and Arpaçay. We hope to host more wonderful events in Çıldır, and I extend my thanks to everyone who participated.”
Strategic Sport Development
Kemalettin Aydın, the Deputy President of the Turkish Ice Skating Federation, highlighted the organization’s mission to develop the sport in its natural environment, train coaches, and reach wider audiences in the region. Aydın emphasized the significance of spending the weekend at Çıldır Lake, stating, “In honor of International Women’s Day, we wanted to send a message with our 20 female athletes from Anatolia in this corner of our country. Additionally, we aimed to underscore the heritage of Çıldır Lake for Ardahan, Kars, Eastern Anatolia, Turkey, and the world. As a tourism paradise nestled in an incredible geography, we came here with Turkey’s most beautiful girls to showcase the beauty of synchronized ice skating, Turkey’s most beautiful sport. Anyone who hasn’t experienced Çıldır is missing out—come and see Çıldır, have a great time.”
