Minister Kurum Visits Construction Site in Kahramanmaraş

Minister Kurum, accompanied by officials from the Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKİ) and Emlak Konut General Directorate, conducted inspections at the construction site on Trabzon Street, where work is ongoing.

Addressing the press during his visit, Minister Kurum emphasized the dedication of the teams working tirelessly day and night to serve the 14 million people in the earthquake zone, sharing their concerns and demonstrating a commitment to solving their problems.

He highlighted the transfer of all experiences to the earthquake zone with a sense of service and a mobilization approach towards finding solutions. Minister Kurum expressed that they never leave the residents of the earthquake zone alone, constantly engaging in consultations with civil society organizations, mayors, parliamentarians, and the governorship to address issues.

Kahramanmaraş holds a special place in their hearts, being a city that embodies their history, culture, civilization, and future. Minister Kurum stated that they have initiated the construction of 32,000 new homes and businesses in Kahramanmaraş and other cities, with 60,000 new housing projects already started in the past three months. He mentioned that they have delivered 101,254 homes in both Kahramanmaraş and other cities, aiming to reach at least 200,000 homes by the end of the year.

A total of 20,764 homes and businesses have already been handed over to their rightful owners in the city, while construction continues around the clock for 25,772 homes in the city center and districts. Minister Kurum emphasized that 153,000 workers are tirelessly working on projects aimed at revitalizing the region and its demographics, tailored to the desires and needs of the locals.

Minister Kurum reaffirmed their promise to address the issues in the Altınova and Hayrullah neighborhoods of the Onikişubat district, where new satellite cities are being planned. Additionally, plans for a wholesale market site in Hayrullah neighborhood are underway, with 117 independent sections to support local trade and exports.

In Doğukent neighborhood, projects led by Emlak Konut General Directorate are progressing with the construction of 4,240 homes and businesses in three phases. The first phase has already begun, with foundations laid for approximately 464 units and 36 commercial spaces. Minister Kurum also addressed the issue of micro-certification, indicating that experts are evaluating the necessary steps to address public concerns.

Minister Kurum reiterated President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s mandate to not only oversee the ministry but also to care for each individual affected by disasters in the earthquake zone. The program was attended by various local officials, including the Governor of Kahramanmaraş, the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, and members of parliament from the AK Party and MHP.
