The Responsibility Taken by Özgür Özel in Ending Debates
CHP Genel Başkanı Özgür Özel recently visited Kurtuluş Parkı where the workers dismissed from Fernas Mining had staged a protest. After interacting with journalists and answering questions, Özel addressed the issue of the survey results regarding President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan being greeted standing up at the opening of the new legislative year in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Özel shared insights from a recent survey conducted, indicating that there was a 74% support for the stance taken by the CHP nationwide. The support was even higher among AK Party and MHP voters, with over 90%, and among IYI Party voters with over 80%. Within the CHP voter base, there was a 62% approval rate, with 38% expressing disapproval. However, when the reasoning behind the stance was explained, the support among CHP members increased from 62% to 72-73%.
He emphasized the importance of respecting the office of the Presidency, as it is seen as the seat of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and highlighted the lack of coverage in the media regarding the struggles and hardships faced by the miners. Özel stressed that the CHP’s decision to stand or not stand was not to offend anyone but to show respect to the institution of the Presidency.
