Rojin’s Death: Initial Findings Show No Suspicious Condition
The tragic death of 21-year-old university student Rojin Kabaiş, whose lifeless body was discovered 18 days after she went missing in Van, has left many questioning the circumstances surrounding her passing. Van Cumhuriyet Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office officials have stated that in their initial findings, no suspicious conditions have been identified. However, they noted that due to an extended period in the water, serious deformities were observed on the body, indicating a need for further investigation. The cause of death will be determined based on the results from the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute.
Multiple Samples Sent to Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute
Following the discovery of Rojin Kabaiş’s body on the shores of Lake Van 18 days after her disappearance, close to 100 samples were collected from her body for analysis. These samples have been sent to the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute to undergo thorough examination and provide insights into the circumstances surrounding Rojin’s death.
Rojin Kabaiş, a first-year student in the Child Development Department of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, vanished on September 27 after having dinner at her dormitory. Her lifeless body was found by Mehmet Emin Ankay (60) approximately 20 kilometers away from the area where she went missing, in the rural Mollakasım Mahallesi shore of Tuşba district, known for its summer residences.
Upon Ankay’s report, authorities including the gendarmerie, police, fire department, and Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) were dispatched to the scene. Rojin’s body was then transported to the Forensic Medicine Institute on the campus of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University for a comprehensive autopsy, which lasted around 7 hours. Following the autopsy, Rojin’s remains were delivered to her family in the early hours of the morning and sent to her hometown of Diyarbakır for her final farewell.
Van Bar Association President Sinan Özaraz revealed that a confidentiality order was issued by the Van Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding Rojin Kabaiş’s case, preventing the disclosure of the preliminary autopsy report to both the family and the Bar Association. He emphasized that they had requested the presence of an expert during the autopsy as the Bar Association but were denied by the prosecutor. After receiving the family’s authorization, they informed the relevant prosecutor of their involvement in the case and are now awaiting the results of the samples sent to Istanbul.
