Trabzon Technical University (KTU) recently hosted a panel on smart cities and cadastre, drawing in a crowd of esteemed guests and eager participants. The event, held at the Erdo\u011fan \u00d6zbenli Amphitheater in the Department of Geomatics Engineering, kicked off with a welcoming cocktail and a classical music performance, followed by a moment of silence and the national anthem.<\/p>\n
During the opening program, Rektor Prof. Dr. Hamdullah \u00c7uvalc\u0131 greeted the attendees and highlighted the importance of smart cities in today’s urban landscape. Pointing out the responsibility of universities to generate knowledge and develop research tailored to the needs of practitioners, \u00c7uvalc\u0131 emphasized, “Smart cities are a crucial urban development vision that transforms the dynamics of cities in areas such as energy efficiency, public safety, transportation, and healthcare, utilizing information technologies.”<\/p>\n
Speaking at the event, Head of the Department of Geomatics Engineering at KTU, Prof. Dr. Mualla Yal\u00e7\u0131nkaya, expressed pride in the department’s 60-year history and the achievements of its graduates. Yal\u00e7\u0131nkaya summarized the panel’s aim by stating, “We aim to create awareness by addressing the concept of smart cities, a multidisciplinary field.” Emphasizing the complex and multi-layered nature of cities, she drew attention to the challenges of solving issues like traffic, healthcare, waste management, drinking water, and planning using traditional methods. Yal\u00e7\u0131nkaya underscored the significance of the smart cities concept in addressing these difficulties.<\/p>\n
Following the opening speeches, the panel delved into the presentation by Prof. Dr. Tahsin Yomral\u0131o\u011flu from Istanbul Technical University, focusing on “Innovative Opportunities in Smart Cities.” Yomral\u0131o\u011flu shed light on the possibilities offered by new technologies for smart cities, aiming to make cities sustainable and livable, streamline cadastre processes, and introduce innovations through digitized systems.<\/p>\n
Tapu and Cadastre General Director Hakan Gedikli presented a detailed overview of the institution’s future goals and projects in his speech titled “The Future Vision of Tapu and Cadastre,” providing insight into the future direction of the organization.<\/p>\n
