Turkish Intelligence Conducts Operation in Syria’s Kamishli

In a swift and strategic move, Turkish intelligence forces successfully carried out an operation in Syria’s Kamishli, eliminating one of the top names in the PKK terrorist organization. Nesrin Amed, known by the code name Yayla Kızılkaya, a prominent figure in the armed women’s structure of YJA-Star and PAJK, was tracked down and killed through real-time intelligence-based pinpoint operation by the National Intelligence Organization (MİT).

Key Details of the Operation

The operation was initiated based on information that the female terrorist Yayla Kızılkaya was located in Kamishli, a town in Haseki Province, right across the border from Kızıltepe District in Mardin. The External Operations Directorate and Signal Intelligence Directorate of the National Intelligence Organization swiftly mobilized upon receiving this crucial intelligence. Surveillance units closely monitored the movements of the female terrorist, leading to a momentous point operation where she was killed during a planned raid.

Previous Activities and Responsibilities

Yayla Kızılkaya, who had arrest and continuous search warrants for crimes such as disrupting the unity and integrity of the state, killing a public official in the course of their duty, violating the Firearms Law, and being a member of an armed terrorist organization, had been part of the terrorist organization’s mountain cadre since 1993. Her involvement in numerous violent attacks along the Turkey-Syria border regions, including Hakkari, Şemdinli, Çukurca, Derecik, Yüksekova, and Şırnak, was confirmed.

During the years 2015-2017, Yayla Kızılkaya held the title of the so-called general responsible of Kandil and engaged in significant activities in various regions of Iraq, such as Gara Mountain, Zap, Metina, Hakurk, and Haftanin. She also assumed the general responsibility of the area named Medya Defense Zones by the PKK in northern Iraq. Moreover, she was reported to have overseen the Mahmur Camp, initially under the UN control but later seized by the PKK.

Recent Roles in Syria

For the past five years, Yayla Kızılkaya had been actively involved in the northern and northeastern regions of Syria, under the umbrella of the YPG, the Syrian branch of the PKK. She held positions such as the so-called General Responsible of Şehba within the YPG and, most recently, the field responsible of the so-called Cezire Canton. Apart from her operational duties, she was responsible for the transfer of personnel, arms procurement, and the management of armed units within the organization in Syria.

This operation marks a significant success for Turkish intelligence in combating terrorism and maintaining national security both at home and abroad. The elimination of a key figure like Yayla Kızılkaya underscores the unwavering dedication of security forces in safeguarding the country against internal and external threats. Such operations serve as a reminder of the continuous efforts required to ensure peace and stability in the region.
