THY Sets Guinness World Record: Airline Flying to the Most Countries
THY Receives Guinness World Record for Most Countries Flown To
On December 19, 2024, Turkish Airlines (THY), the holder of the title for the airline flying to the most countries since 2012, solidified its success by setting a Guinness World Record. The certificate for the “Most Countries Flown to by an Airline” was handed over to THY General Manager, Bilal Ekşi, at the Santiago Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Chile, following THY’s inaugural flight to the country.
In a ceremony attended by Guinness World Records officials and THY executives, Bilal Ekşi expressed his delight at being in Santiago, the capital of Chile, to receive the prestigious title of “Most Countries Flown to by an Airline.” Ekşi highlighted the airline’s pride in showcasing the strength of its flight network, stating, “We are strengthening our mission of connecting people, cultures, and destinations worldwide.”
THY’s Record-Breaking Achievement
Guinness World Records’ evaluation criteria revealed that THY broke the record by flying to 120 active routes in the past year alone. With temporary routes and the recent flight to Chile included, THY’s flight network now spans 131 countries, solidifying its leadership in the global aviation industry.
Guinness World Records MENA and Turkey Vice President, Talal Omar, commended THY for exemplifying vision and excellence in aviation, connecting the world and playing a vital role in global aviation. Omar congratulated THY on this extraordinary achievement.
Expanding Reach and Enhancing Travel Experience
By inaugurating flights to Santiago, THY increased the number of countries it serves in the Americas to 10. The new route from Istanbul to Santiago via Sao Paulo will operate four times a week, contributing significantly to the airline’s global flight network. The Istanbul-Santiago promotion offers travel at $1099 from Istanbul to Santiago and $999 from Santiago to Istanbul until March 31, 2025.
The new route not only expands THY’s flight network but also strengthens the bond between Turkey and Chile. With a range of services to enhance passenger comfort, including free hotel stays for layovers of 20 hours or longer through “Stopover Istanbul” and guided tours of Istanbul for layovers between 6-24 hours through the “TourIstanbul” program, THY aims to provide a seamless travel experience for its passengers.
Connecting Continents and Cultures
Santiago’s rich history, cultural attractions, and stunning Andes Mountain views make it a compelling destination for travelers worldwide. THY’s new route not only facilitates access to South America but also offers an unforgettable experience for guests looking to explore Chile’s natural and cultural wonders.
With this remarkable milestone, THY continues to soar high in the global aviation landscape, bringing the world closer together through seamless air travel experiences. As Bilal Ekşi aptly put it, “Turkey is growing, and THY is flying high.”
