President Erdogan’s Vision: A United Turkey Free from Terrorism
During the holy month of Ramadan, as we come together in solidarity and elevate our sense of brotherhood, it is a time like no other. Our municipalities, public institutions, foundations, associations, and philanthropists are all engaging in activities that resonate with the spirit of Ramadan. Our Syrian neighbors are experiencing the holy month without the fear of bombs, after enduring 14 years of oppression. Meanwhile, our brothers and sisters in Gaza, under the brutal attacks by Israel, find solace even amidst the rubble, thanks to the fragile ceasefire. Once again, we send our love and messages of solidarity to our brethren in Syria and Gaza.
Stability Amidst Chaos in Syria
As we advocate for “peace for all, stability for all,” we witness power-hungry entities that thrive on the instability of the Islamic world. There are attempts in many places to incite conflicts and tensions based on ethnic or sectarian lines. We have seen the latest example of this in Syria, where remnants of the old regime have provoked sectarian violence through acts of terrorism. Thanks to the effective intervention by the Syrian government, the situation has largely been brought under control, but the sensitivity on the ground remains. As Turkey, we condemn in the strongest terms any attack or act of terror that targets Syria’s unity and social peace. We are taking necessary precautions and providing the Syrian authorities with the guidance needed to swiftly overcome the tense atmosphere. President Bashar’s firm message against those who step outside the law is commendable. Without falling into a trap of revenge, Mr. Bashar pursues an inclusive policy. We sincerely hope that Syria, after decades of yearning, will soon achieve lasting peace and tranquility.
Standing Firm Against Division
I firmly believe that the Syrian people will not allow anyone to fragment their country or push it into the quagmire of instability. We are friends, we are partners in destiny. To those who have been trying for 14 years to ignite the Syrian fire in our country, I emphasize once again that we are not concerned with anyone’s origins, religion, or sect, neither in Iraq, nor in Syria, Lebanon, or other regional countries. While last year, in the pursuit of winning elections, the most primitive form of fascism was exhibited, we defend the same principles today with unwavering determination. No one can give us a lesson in conscience. Those who remained silent for 14 years while innocent children were killed cannot now come out and disrespect us. We, as a government, have passed the test of brotherhood both in Syria and Gaza with flying colors. The opposition should act responsibly in such matters and refrain from fueling the fire of discord. Instigating Alevi lives for political gain is a sabotage attempt. To expect help from genocidal monsters is sheer opportunism. In the new phase, we will continue to offer all possible support for Syria’s recovery, the preservation of its territorial integrity and unitary structure, and its peaceful coexistence with all ethnic and sectarian components.
Enhancing Relations with the EU
In a video conference with the European Union, we discussed security and defense issues. The value of Turkey’s balanced, consistent, and principled approach from day one is now better understood. We emphasize at every opportunity that a peace without Russia or Ukraine can never be lasting. With a perspective focused on full membership based on mutual respect and common interests, we aim to enhance our relations with the European Union.
In the past period, we have received promising news in the economy. With investments and exports gaining momentum, we are poised for even stronger growth this year. Our debt burden has lightened, our risk premium has decreased, and the real sector’s confidence in the economy is on the rise. Our employment rates are increasing, and we have made significant progress in combating inflation. In February, inflation fell to 39%. This decline in inflation will continue, especially throughout the rest of the year. Just as we achieved in previous administrations, we aim to bring inflation back to single-digit numbers.
