So, like, this dude, Ali Yerlikaya, he’s the İçişleri Bakanı, right? He’s all like, “Yo, dear press dudes, valuable Istanbul people, so, today, in the Marmara Sea, at like 12:49, there was this earthquake, like, 6.2 on the Richter scale, you know? It lasted like 13 seconds and stuff, about 7 km deep in the ground. It was felt in places like Istanbul, Tekirdağ, Yalova, Bursa, and Balıkesir, especially around Silivri, like 24 km away, you know? And then, until like 5:55, there were like 127 aftershocks, the biggest one being 5.9. And like, there were like 7 aftershocks that were like 4 or higher, man.”
Not really sure why this matters, but like, the first thing they did after the earthquake was to check for damage, you know? They got all these government agencies together in Ankara and Istanbul, and they were like, “Let’s see if there’s any mess to clean up.” And like, all these dudes from the fire department, police, army, and stuff were out there, doing their thing, you know? They even evacuated some rundown buildings in Fatih, but other than that, no casualties, man.
So, like, all these ministers, they were talking about what they did after the earthquake, you know? The Education Minister was like, “School’s out, kids!” And then, like, the President and his buddies were like, “Let’s take a break from work, folks!” And like, there were only like 10,084 calls to the emergency hotline, which is like, nothing considering how many people live in Istanbul, you know? People were calling for all sorts of reasons, from just wanting info to worrying about their homes or health issues.
And then, this other dude, Murat Kurum, he’s like the Environment Minister, he was like, “Yeah, we’re gonna send out teams to check for damage, you know?” He was all calm and like, “Don’t worry, we got this under control, folks. The government is on it, with all its agencies and stuff, ready to help. We’re following the emergency plan, and we already got 378 reports of damaged buildings in Istanbul. We’re sending out 3,000 teams to check things out, man.”
