Student forgoes exam to retrieve a gold necklace – Sözcü Newspaper

In Ankara, the Public Personnel Selection Exam (KPSS) for high school graduates commenced. A woman who refused to part with her gold necklace and a male candidate who attempted to show his exam admission ticket on his phone were not allowed to enter the exam hall.

Aspiring candidates aiming to secure positions in public institutions in Ankara arrived at the exam centers early in the morning to participate in the KPSS high school session organized by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Candidates began to be admitted to the exam center under the supervision of officials starting at 9:00 a.m. Candidates were subjected to thorough checks upon entry, with only their exam admission tickets and identification cards being allowed.

Candidates were advised by officials not to bring accessories such as hair clips, earrings, watches, and similar items. Candidates were admitted to the exam center until 10:00 a.m., after which the doors were closed, and no more candidates were allowed inside. The exam, which would include general aptitude and general knowledge tests, comprised 120 questions for candidates. The exam, starting at 10:15 a.m., lasted for 130 minutes and concluded at 12:25 p.m.

Disabled candidates deemed eligible for additional time could utilize an extra 30 minutes in this exam. Moreover, a total of 1,864,867 candidates applied for the exam, with 900,148 being female and 964,719 being male, across 81 provinces and Lefkoşa.

Refusal to part with a gold necklace leads to skipped exam

Upon arrival at the exam center, candidates entrusted their jewelry and accessories to nearby caretakers or family members. A female candidate, who arrived wearing a gold necklace, refused to part with it, stating that she couldn’t leave it with anyone and consequently decided not to take the exam.

Moments before the exam was set to begin, another candidate arrived at the center on a bicycle and attempted to show his exam admission ticket on his phone. However, officials declined entry to the candidate as he did not have a physical copy of the admission ticket.

Challenges and preparations for the KPSS exam

Preparing for the KPSS exam is a significant challenge for many candidates, as it serves as a gateway to various job opportunities in public institutions. The exam covers a wide range of subjects, including general aptitude and knowledge, requiring candidates to demonstrate their understanding and analytical skills within a limited time frame.

Candidates often dedicate months to studying and revising for the exam, utilizing various resources such as textbooks, online materials, and practice tests. The pressure to perform well can be immense, as the results of the exam can impact their future career prospects significantly.

In addition to academic preparation, candidates also need to ensure they have all the necessary documents and items for the exam day. This includes their exam admission ticket, identification card, and any other materials specified by the exam guidelines. Failure to comply with these requirements can result in candidates being denied entry to the exam hall, as seen in the case of the candidate who tried to show his admission ticket on his phone.

Conclusion

The KPSS exam presents a crucial opportunity for candidates seeking employment in public institutions, requiring thorough preparation and adherence to exam regulations. While the exam day may present challenges and unexpected situations, candidates must remain vigilant and prepared to ensure a smooth and successful exam experience.
