Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Uraloğlu’s Views on Social Media Platforms

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu emphasized that they are not in a restrictive mindset when it comes to social media, stating, “Should we not intervene in a platform where our national and spiritual values are insulted and there is no discipline? We have a much more liberal approach than social media platform providers, and I especially want to emphasize this.”

During the discussions on the Ministry’s 2025 budget at the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Planning and Budget Committee, Uraloğlu addressed criticisms regarding internet speed. He mentioned that fiber infrastructure reaches certain streets, avenues, and homes, catering to the demands of internet users for specific speed packages.

Referring to claims that the country does not meet international criteria in this regard, Uraloğlu highlighted the need for more investments rather than just focusing on financial gains in the telecommunications sector. He acknowledged that despite having higher capacity infrastructure, it may not be fully utilized due to insufficient demand.

Drawing attention to the European Union’s regulations aimed at preventing the spread of illegal content on major social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram for user safety, Uraloğlu underscored the importance of maintaining respect for national and moral values on these platforms.

As a construction engineer himself, Uraloğlu responded to criticisms of Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects, emphasizing that investments are carried out through various methods, including public funds, foreign loans, and PPP projects.

Highlighting the completion of 74 projects in four sectors with a total value of $51.585 billion at current prices during the 22-year rule of the AK Party government, Uraloğlu stressed the government’s commitment to continue implementing beneficial projects for the country.

Uraloğlu provided updates on key infrastructure projects such as the Osmangazi Bridge and Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, noting the significant increase in daily traffic and the adjustment of toll rates.

Addressing criticisms related to the AJet project, Uraloğlu acknowledged the challenges faced due to external factors but assured that the issues have been resolved, and the project is progressing smoothly.

In terms of cybersecurity, Uraloğlu reassured the public of Turkey’s strong position in Europe and globally, emphasizing the country’s adequate data storage capacity and commitment to maintaining effective data management practices.

Moreover, Uraloğlu mentioned ongoing efforts to regulate the operations of motorcycle couriers and clarified the government’s stance on trade with Israel, emphasizing that strict measures are in place to ensure compliance with export codes.

Looking ahead, Uraloğlu expressed optimism about upcoming projects in Istanbul, including those in Haydarpaşa and Sirkeci, promising developments that align with the city’s aesthetic and economic interests.

In conclusion, Minister Uraloğlu reiterated his dedication to continuing the delivery of impactful and necessary projects for Turkey’s development, emphasizing the importance of timeliness and accountability in fulfilling promises made to the public.
