Chain Accident Causes Traffic Jam on TEM Highway

A chain accident on the TEM Highway in the Ankara direction at the ISTOÇ area near the Aksaray junction caused a major traffic jam this morning around 7:30 am. The incident involved multiple vehicles and resulted in a temporary closure of the highway, leading to long lines of cars waiting for clearance.

How the Accident Unfolded

According to reports, the driver of a light commercial vehicle with license plate number 34 GOU 129 came to a stop at the Aksaray junction on the TEM Highway. Unfortunately, a following van driver couldn’t brake in time and collided with the stopped vehicle, setting off a chain reaction. Subsequently, another van and a light commercial vehicle were also unable to stop in time, leading to a total of four vehicles being involved in the accident.

Emergency Response and Rescue Efforts

One of the van drivers involved in the collision was trapped inside the vehicle following the impact. Upon receiving the distress call, firefighting, police, and medical teams rushed to the scene. The firefighters successfully extracted the trapped driver and handed them over to medical personnel for further assistance.

The closure of the Ankara-bound lanes on the TEM Highway following the accident exacerbated the already heavy traffic flow in the area, causing significant delays for commuters.

Eye-Witness Account

Mehmet Kaya, one of the fortunate drivers who escaped injury in the accident, shared his account of the harrowing experience. “I was heading towards the highway when I noticed the vehicle in front of me had come to a sudden stop in the middle of the road. Most likely, they missed their exit. I slammed on my brakes, but the car behind me rear-ended me, pushing me into the vehicle ahead. The driver behind me got stuck in their vehicle, and the firefighters had to come and rescue them,” Kaya recounted.

As authorities work to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow on the TEM Highway, drivers are advised to exercise caution and stay informed about alternative routes to avoid further delays and potential accidents. Stay tuned for updates on the situation as it develops.
