So, like, Istanbul got hit by an earthquake yesterday, then like, cold weather came knocking! People who had to spend the night outside were freezing, and now everyone’s wondering what the weather will be like for the next 3 days, you know?

After the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that shook Istanbul and surrounding areas yesterday, people who were still nervous from the quake had to spend the night outside. They were chilling in parks, gyms, school yards, and mosques because of the earthquake fear. But then the cold weather hit, bringing dark clouds and making the quake victims even more anxious. Not really sure why this matters, but people are freaking out about the weather during these scary earthquake days. When will the sun start warming up Istanbul? Meteorology Engineer Adil Tek, like, didn’t really promise warm days for the earthquake survivors who were left outside. Here are Adil Tek’s weather forecasts for Istanbul for this week…
Yesterday, after the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Silivri in the Marmara Sea, panic spread throughout Istanbul. The tremor was especially felt on the European side, and many people chose to spend the night in parks or in their cars instead of at home. For example, Bahçelievler Kuleli Park was filled with people spending both anxious and sleepless hours throughout the night. Some people set up tents in the park to feel safe, while others tried to sleep on benches wrapped in blankets. Some families stayed awake all night watching over their children. Similar scenes were seen in Silivri and Büyükçekmece as well. People were not only dealing with fear after the earthquake but also had to battle the weather conditions. The drop in temperatures during the night left families with children in even more difficult situations. On social media, many people started wondering about the upcoming weather. They are trying to plan ahead based on the meteorological situation in the coming days. So, how will the weather be in Istanbul for the next three days? In the northern coasts of the Marmara Sea, there is a foggy and misty weather effect, according to Meteorology Engineer Adil Tek. He said, “Today, especially on the Black Sea coasts and in Istanbul, as well as on the northern coasts of the Marmara, there is a foggy and misty weather effect. The main reason for the weather looking cloudy and cold is that the sea water temperatures are still around 10-11 degrees.” Tek continued, “In addition to this situation, a moist air mass has entered the region. There is a light air flow from the south, but this flow does not carry a significant amount of heat to the region. When all these meteorological factors come together, a cloudy, grey, and cool weather forms in Istanbul and its surroundings. This weather condition is described by the citizens as ‘chilling.’ Similar conditions were effective yesterday, and today the same weather continues.” In Silivri and Büyükçekmece, the fog and mist are more intense, especially in Silivri, Büyükçekmece, Küçükçekmece, Bakırköy, and Zeytinburnu. Adil Tek said, “These weather conditions, which sometimes reduce visibility, can also partially affect transportation.” Adil Tek said that the temperatures will remain at current levels for a few more days. He stated, “Today, we see a temperature of 15-16 degrees during the day. This cool weather will continue on Friday and Saturday. The thermometers showed 19 degrees in some places yesterday, but today is a cooler day. Temperatures are not expected to rise above 20 degrees for the next three days, including the weekend. So there will be no warming between 20-25 degrees.” Adil Tek emphasized the importance of paying attention to nighttime temperatures. He said, “Temperatures will be around 8-9 degrees during the night, especially for people staying in tents in the areas where the earthquake was strongly felt. The cold weather experienced last night will be felt in the same way tonight. Therefore, those staying in tents or open areas should be cautious against the dropping temperatures at night. Coolness is more noticeable in the morning and evening hours.” Will it rain? Adil Tek stated that there is no expected rainfall in Istanbul today. For the next three days, he made the following predictions: Friday – There is a possibility of local and weak rainfall around Silivri and Büyükçekmece towards noon on Friday. These rains are expected to be short-lived and light. Saturday – Rainy weather will be effective in Istanbul from noon onwards on Saturday. The rains will stop in the evening. These rains are not strong; however, they can be effective, especially for people living in open areas or staying in tents. Sunday – The possibility of rain is higher on Sunday. Rain is expected to increase intermittently throughout the day. Therefore, especially on Sunday, it is necessary to be more careful and cautious.
