Mansur Yavaş Scandal: CHP Mayor Pays Mor ve Ötesi 71 Million TL – AK Party Reacts
Since taking office as the Mayor of Ankara, Mansur Yavaş, a member of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), has failed to make any significant improvements to the capital city. Instead, he has been accused of orchestrating numerous perception operations during election periods. Despite claiming to prioritize savings when it comes to investments, Yavaş recently came under fire for paying singer Ebru Gündeş a staggering 69 million TL for her performance at the October 29th celebrations. This decision sparked outrage among residents of Ankara, who criticized Yavaş for prioritizing concerts over much-needed infrastructure projects. However, this controversy was just the tip of the iceberg, as a new scandal involving the CHP-led Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has now come to light.
Ankara Mayor Embroiled in Yet Another Scandal
Amidst the ongoing debates surrounding the exorbitant payment made to Ebru Gündeş, a new scandal has emerged involving the CHP-led Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. It has been revealed that the municipality paid rock band Mor ve Ötesi a total of 71 million TL for a concert held in May. This revelation has further fueled public outrage towards Mansur Yavaş, who stands accused of prioritizing extravagant events over essential city development projects. Both residents of Ankara and members of the AK Party have voiced their disapproval of these actions.
AK Party Responds to the Controversy
Fatih Şahin, the General Secretary of the AK Party, criticized the CHP-led administration in Ankara for failing to deliver any significant projects for the city. He highlighted the fact that Mansur Yavaş had spent 69 million TL on a concert and then another 71 million TL on a separate event, while neglecting crucial infrastructure initiatives. Dr. Leyla Şahin Usta, the Group Deputy Chairman of the AK Party, also condemned Yavaş’s management, pointing out the connection between the organization firm responsible for the concerts and the agency that managed Yavaş’s election campaign. Hasan Basri Yalçın, a Deputy Chairman of the AK Party, further criticized Yavaş for his extravagant spending, stating, “Giving with a spoon and taking back with a shovel seems to be their motto.”
The controversy surrounding Mansur Yavaş’s decision to pay exorbitant amounts for concerts has now reached the Turkish Grand National Assembly, with members questioning the Mayor’s priorities and financial management. As the debate continues to escalate, it remains to be seen how Yavaş and the CHP-led administration will address the growing concerns of Ankara residents and political opponents alike.
