Sümeyye Erdoğan Bayraktar Discusses the Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Women
The 6th Women and Justice Summit organized by the Women and Democracy Foundation (KADEM) kicked off today with a focus on artificial intelligence. Sümeyye Erdoğan Bayraktar, the Chair of the Board of Trustees at KADEM, highlighted the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence. She emphasized the transformative power of AI in various aspects of life, noting both its potential to simplify human existence and the risks it carries.
Artificial intelligence is a technology with the potential to revolutionize our world. We are likely to witness a significant breakthrough in various fields such as education, healthcare, justice, and academia. However, it is crucial to recognize the dual nature of AI, as it can bring both advantages and threats. Recent conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon have demonstrated the utilization of this technology in warfare.
As a foundation focusing on women’s issues, we understand that artificial intelligence can create similar advantages and disadvantages for women. This is why we have chosen AI as the theme of our summit. There is currently a window of opportunity to explore how we can leverage AI and the extent to which women can participate in this domain. It is evident that only 22% of individuals working in the data and communication sectors are women. We will discuss how to increase this number and elevate women to higher positions during the summit, where concrete experiences will be shared.
Exploring the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Promoting Gender Equality
The Women and Democracy Foundation’s website provides insights into the summit’s focus on artificial intelligence. The advancement of AI technologies is leading to accelerated changes in various sectors, offering new opportunities to address gender inequalities. However, it is essential to acknowledge that AI can also pose risks and challenges. Therefore, understanding how AI will shape our future, considering its full potential and risks, is a critical topic of discussion.
At the sixth Women and Justice Summit, we aim to explore the steps that can be taken to harness these technologies for an inclusive and sustainable world. Our goal is to engage in in-depth discussions on how the gains made in the AI era can be used to create a fairer and safer future for women.
By reevaluating our experiences and perspectives on women’s subjectivity, position, and rights in the age of AI, we seek to deepen our awareness and understanding of this issue. We aim to advocate for women’s empowerment by sharing our demands and proposals with the public and enhancing advocacy efforts in relevant areas.
Key Questions to Address in the Era of Artificial Intelligence
The summit will address several fundamental questions related to the impact of artificial intelligence on women and gender equality:
– Can advancements in AI technology offer a more equitable future for women?
– What are the positive and negative effects of AI technologies and algorithms on women?
– Can AI create new gender norms or reinforce existing ones?
– Does AI have the potential to make gender norms more inclusive and fair?
– Do the gender perceptions of AI developers and manufacturers influence algorithms?
– How can AI be approached to ensure women’s equal agency in future technology usage?
