Syrian Leader Assad: Millions to Return Home in 2 Years
Syrian Exodus Reversed
In a recent interview with content creator Joe HaTTab on Youtube, Bashar al-Assad shared a hopeful message: he is confident that the 14 million Syrians who were forcibly displaced due to the collapse of the 61-year-old Ba’ath regime will return to their homeland in the next two years.
Assad emphasized that throughout the process that led to the regime’s downfall, those living in areas under their control were not displaced but rather saw an increase in population as more people sought to live in these regions. He highlighted that now, people from all walks of life in Syria are living together harmoniously.
Rebuilding and Justice
Assad acknowledged the oppressive nature of the toppled regime, which used state institutions to exert control over the population. He described how the regime fostered hostility among the people, organized all institutions to subjugate the population, and resorted to torture and killings to enforce its rules.
Looking towards the future, Assad stressed the importance of rebuilding the country based on principles of justice. He emphasized the need for short, medium, and long-term plans for public institutions, legislative and executive bodies, and various sectors of society. Assad expressed that a weak state cannot empower its citizens, highlighting the importance of strategic planning.
Social Cohesion and Reconciliation
Assad acknowledged that addressing existing social issues will take time but stressed that with stable plans and social education, these challenges can be overcome. He emphasized the importance of fulfilling promises made to the people and outlined priorities for state-building, including establishing institutions that deliver justice.
Assad noted that the Syrian people have overcome the demoralization that accompanied the revolution, stating proudly that Syrians now hold their heads high everywhere. He spoke of a shift in the course of history brought about by their actions.
Forgiveness and Unity
The Syrian leader highlighted the prevailing social consensus in Syria, indicating that for the first time, people can live together in harmony. He declared that with the regime’s collapse, the revolutionary mindset has given way to a state-driven approach.
Describing their goal as a “victory without revenge,” Assad expressed support for the policy of amnesty and a compassionate approach towards those who changed sides after the regime’s fall. While showing understanding towards individuals who were indoctrinated against the revolution for years, he made it clear that there would be no forgiveness for those involved in torture, barrel bombings, or massacres.
In conclusion, Assad emphasized that while challenges lie ahead, the Syrian people have shown resilience and a commitment to rebuilding their nation. As the country embarks on a new chapter, the hope for peace, justice, and unity shines brightly.
