Transitioning to a New Era of Green Transformation in Industry: Minister’s Statement
In a groundbreaking announcement, Minister Murat Kurum shared the details of the Industrial Emissions Management Regulation published in the Official Gazette tonight. After two years of extensive work, he stated, “With this regulation, we are opening a new chapter in ‘Green Transformation in Industry,’ entering a new era.” By focusing on energy and resource efficiency and operating on the principle of zero pollution, we are issuing a ‘Green Transformation Certificate’ to facilities that meet these criteria, effectively establishing a green transformation standard for the industry. This regulation, affecting 6,000 facilities, will classify the facilities and elevate our industrialists who receive an A grade certificate to a more prestigious position in the international market.
Accelerating Green Transformation
Minister Kurum highlighted the signing of the “Protocol on Data Sharing for Environmental Performance,” which will showcase the environmental performance of our industrialists. This protocol will enable us to calculate environmental risk assessments based on data from Air Emission Management (HEY) and NEFES, accelerating the green transformation of our facilities. This will facilitate quicker access to the much-needed financial support for our sector. Subsequently, we will create new business sectors, professions, and expertise, providing our young talents in Turkey with new opportunities to shine and elevate our industry, competitiveness, employment, and production with innovative young minds.
Environmental Crisis in Marmara
Addressing the ongoing mucilage crisis in the Marmara Sea, Minister Kurum expressed concern over the failure of local municipalities to implement the 22-point action plan, including the construction of advanced biological wastewater treatment facilities. He urged the municipalities to fulfill their responsibilities promptly and adhere to the commitments made in the Marmara Sea Protection and Action Plan to save Marmara from further pollution.
Serving the People
Minister Kurum emphasized that the government supports all municipalities, regardless of political affiliation, in serving the public. He reminded them that the era of expecting support without delivering results or making a positive impact on nature, our children’s future, and the community has ended. Every promise made must be fulfilled, and actions must speak louder than words in politics and municipal service.
Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır emphasized the efforts to achieve green transformation across all sectors of the industry in line with the 2053 Net Zero Emission Target and development priorities. He highlighted the significance of the regulations by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change in evaluating companies’ green taxonomy compliance and the application of the best available techniques.
In conclusion, the collaboration and protocols established are crucial steps toward a sustainable and environmentally conscious industrial sector, paving the way for international recognition, access to finance, and a brighter future for Turkey’s industry.
